Aston Villa are said to have made a £2m bid for Iceland international goalkeeper, Hakon Valdimarsson. The youngster himself has now reacted to the news.

It is safe to say that it has been a quiet window for Aston Villa but in the last few days, it appears to be picking up speed.

The change in tact has seen Unai Emery and Co. look into signing younger players with plenty of potential on cheaper fees.

This is being done while offloading some stars on bigger wages with the hope of bringing in some sort of fee.

With that being said, there has now been one young starlet rumoured to be joining the Villans in response to a departure.

Bid made for Hakon Valdimarsson

This week has seen Villa let go of squad rotation goalkeeper, Filip Marschall and as a result, a new young keeper is needed.

There had been links made with Emery’s son, Lander who had been included in a U21s matchday squad vs Sutton Coldfield Town.

Now it appears that attentions have turned as Fabrizio Romano recently reported a bid had been made by the Villans.

On that, he said: “Aston Villa have sent a bid in excess of €2m for Elfsborg goalkeeper Hákon Valdimarsson.”

It won’t come as a surprise if Villa fans haven’t heard of Valdimarsson given he is a regular in the Swedish league with Elfsborg.

At 22-years old he has had a very positive campaign so far. Having played 29 games he has only conceded 22 while keeping 13 clean sheets, according to FotMob.

He also profiles very strongly when it comes to being a sweeper keeper and making highball claims in the area. These are two things Emi Martinez does and as a result, Valdimarsson can learn from moving forward.

Young GK makes Aston Villa statement

With the bid being lodged, there is now a distinct possibility that the transfer could happen in the coming weeks.

In a statement to Sportbladet, transcribed by VillaReport, Valdimarsson has now opened up about a potential move.

On that, he said: “Aston Villa? It’s big. A top club in the Premier League & they play very well. It’s great to see that they are interested. It’s top players, it’s the highest quality of everything. Training with some of the world’s best players is developmental.”

With that being said, it is clear that the Iceland international would welcome a move to the Premier League and Villa Park.

Given Robin Olsen’s age and Marschall’s loan away, this could be the perfect time for a young goalkeeper to come in.

With young players such as Morgan Rogers and Kosta Nedeljkovic being the other solid rumours of the month, this move could be exciting.

Nobody is going to replace Martinez just yet, but having an option who can grow into that role coming through could be ideal.
