Aston Villa manager, Unai Emery appears to have signed his own son, Lander as he was on the bench for the under-21s against Sutton Coldfield Town.

This week has seen Aston Villa be linked to various different players in a variety of positions to add cover to the squad.

It has been a great season for the Villans under Unai Emery which has seen them rise up to second in the Premier League.

This hasn’t stopped them from being linked to adding some reinforcements to their squad with an attacker a priority. Cyril Ngonge has been one man heavily linked with a move however a move now looks unlikely.

There have also been links suggesting that a right-back option is being touted by the club to provide cover for Matty Cash. There have been reports of Jeremie Frimpong but a summer move looks more likely.

Now there have been rumours suggesting that a young goalkeeper is wanted by the Villans moving forward. This has now seen a new signing be included in a Birmingham Senior Cup squad.

Lander Emery involved in under-21s

The reports of signing a new goalkeeper have come up this week, although it had been said that it was a preference for the summer.

With that being said, it now appears that a potential option has been brought into the youth set-up of the club.

In a report by John Townley for the Birmingham Mail, he has suggested that the Villa manager’s son is now in the ranks.

On that, he said: “Emery’s son, Lander, appears to have joined the club’s academy after being named on the bench for the under-21s’ matchday squad to face Sutton Coldfield Town in the Birmingham Senior Cup last night. Lander is 20 years old and plays as a goalkeeper.

“He has been training at Bodymoor Heath after leaving Spanish club CD Roda B, who play in the Valencian League. He didn’t play a part in Villa U21s’ win over Sutton Coldfield, but it will be interesting to see how he develops in the coming years.”

Given his lack of top experience in a youth set-up, this signing does seem to be solely for the Emery family link.

This appears to be a new move and also a trial period since the club hasn’t announced the signing of the Spaniard. Given that he is a goalkeeper, he does seem to fit the bill that the club are currently after.

It is unclear as to how good Emery is and could be but with his dad as manager, who knows where his future could lie.
