Marcos Acuna is ‘pressing’ for a move to Unai Emery’s Aston Villa this summer, according to an Argentine journalist.
On Tuesday, reports emerged that Aston Villa are targeting the World Cup winner and they would like to take him on board.
But it seems as though the versatile defender isn’t getting what he wants because Argentine journalist, Claudio Mauri, who works for La Nación, has reported on Twitter that there is ‘tension’ between the player and Sevilla.
Given that Acuna has the chance to play in the Premier League, as well as remain in Europe and play alongside his national teammate, Emiliano Martinez, then it’s understandable that he wants this move.
Back in January, Aston Villa signed Alex Moreno from Real Betis. He was one of Villa’s best players during the second-half of the season, but he missed pre-season through injury.
That leaves Lucas Digne as the club’s bonafide left-back, but there is talk that he could leave, so it’s understandable that another left-sided defender is wanted, although, Acuna can play many roles.

“Tension between Marcos Acuña and Sevilla,” wrote Mauri. “Huevo (Egg, nickname for Acuna) is angry.
“He is pressing to go to Aston Villa, where he would be Dibu Martínez’s teammate, but what the English club offers does not satisfy the Spanish (side).”
Interesting move from Emery
That left-back area wasn’t a concern for Villa fans, nor was it a position that needed to be targeted at the start of the summer.
But if Digne does go, then it’s understandable that Acuna comes in, not forgetting the injury to Tyrone Mings.
The reason being, during pre-season, Pau Torres played at left-back, with suggestions that Emery, who likes to switch formation during games, was going to use him in that position, at times, in a 4-4-2 formation without the ball and a three at the back with it.
But, of course, with the news regarding Mings, that tactic has now gone out of the window.
