Eddie Howe has told Tyrone Mings that he sends ‘all my love’ after the Aston Villa defender suffered a serious knee injury against Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Saturday.

Aston Villa have since confirmed, on Monday morning, that Tyrone Mings will be out of action for a ‘lengthy’ period of time, as they wrote on the club’s website.

This is a bitter blow for Villa and Unai Emery because Mings has been a key reason why the team will be playing in Europe this term – Newcastle United boss, Eddie Howe, spoke about his rise in recent years, as he told The Shields Gazette.

His presence at the back and his leadership qualities are going to be a huge, huge miss in what has been a horror week for the club.

Emi Buendia suffered a ‘significant knee ligament injury’ in training and, just like Mings, Villa are now set to miss both of their services this season.

Nonetheless, Newcastle boss Eddie Howe signed Mings when he was the manager of Bournemouth and he sent this classy message to the 30-year-old.

“You never want to see that kind of situation for any player,” said Howe.

“I signed Tyrone, it feels like a long time ago and I think on his debut for us he got a really serious injury, but I have to say he faced that period out with incredible courage and resilience

“What he’s done since that moment to go on and play for his country and be outstanding in the Premier League is a testament to that resilience. I certainly wish him well and send him all my love.”

Villa need to pick themselves up

This has been a week to forget, both on and off the pitch and, after a positive and healthy pre-season, our campaign has got off to the worst possible start.

The only thing Villa can do here is change the mood by putting a win on the board, as they play their first home match of the season against Everton on Sunday.

There’s no doubt that the Villa Park faithful will show their support to both Mings and Buendia throughout the game.

Luckily enough, Villa have a classy and experienced manager in the dugout that will guide us back to some form of normality.
