Aston Villa hold an interest and are working on a deal to try to sign Marcos Acuna from Sevilla.

Earlier today reports emerged, via John Percy, that Lucas Digne was potentially leaving the club. It appears Acuna would be a replacement option.

The Argentine international would be available for a fee of roughly £15 million.

Pepe Castro, president of Sevilla FC, has said: “Our team is a team with champion players and the champions have a price.

“If an offer arrives, we will study it.”

Who is Marcos Acuna?

Starting his career for Ferro in Argentina, his big break came at Racing Club.

He joined them in 2014 where he made 78 appearances. He was part of the team that won the Primera Division for the first time in 13 years.

After three years, he was sold to Sporting Lisbon for £9 million.

He was injured following an attack at the Sporting training ground in May 2018 after a third-place finish.

He played in the cup final the following weekend, losing to Aves.

In 2020, the left back signed for Sevilla where he has gone on to win a Europa League, doing so as part of the team of the season.

What would Marcos Acuna add to Aston Villa?

He is a very dynamic player as a former midfielder.

He excels dribbling with the ball and making dangerous forward passes.

An attacking-minded full back, Acuna is more than capable of strong defensive work, flying into tackles when needed.

At Sevilla he covered different positions down the left, playing on the wing in some games.

Like Lucas Digne, he is adept at set pieces, something which Villa typically don’t score enough from.

If the Frenchman was to be sold, and a low fee could be agreed for the Argentine, he could be an excellent signing.

Going into the Europa Conference League, Acuna’s European experience could come into its own as the season progresses.
