Aston Villa face Deadline Day transfer twist as Premier League giants consider Jhon Duran move

Aston Villa are preparing for not much business coming into the club on deadline day but there could be several who exit Villa Park.

Aston Villa wanted to sign Feyenoord defender Lutsharel Geertruida but unfortunately, Unai Emery had to offload three players to make a deal happen, including Leander Dendoncker, Enzo Barrenechea (loan) and Diego Carlos.

Now, Geertruida is closing in on a move to fellow Champions League side RB Leipzig, which deals a huge blow to Emery’s chance of landing a defender before deadline day.

Villa do remain focused on sourcing exits for some of their fringe players, as Dendoncker is wanted by Anderlecht and Barrenechea is garnering interest from Spanish side Valencia.

But, the Villans could still lose a key player from their squad too, with a Premier League giant potentially lining up a move for Jhon Duran.

Chelsea place Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran on Deadline Day shortlist

In the early stages of this summer, striker Duran was linked with an exit from Villa Park.

Chelsea were the first club to show an interest while West Ham had a bid rejected for Duran.

The 20-year-old didn’t help matters by adding fuel to the fire as his ‘irons’ gesture on Instagram Live angered many supporters, who felt that it was the final straw for him.

Fast forward a month and the Colombian remains a huge part of Villa’s plans. Duran scored the winner against West Ham and has looked electric from the bench.

On deadline day, though, there are always plenty of twists and turns, with it now emerging that Duran has been placed on Chelsea’s shortlist if they miss out on prime target Victor Osimhen.

As per Sky Sports, Duran is one of three targets, including Brentford’s Ivan Toney and Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin if they fail to sign the Napoli star.

Jhon Duran isn’t for sale at Aston Villa

Duran’s ceiling as a striker is incredible. For his age, he’s already one of the best strikers in the world and only a mammoth bid, perhaps £60m+, would even tempt Villa into selling him.

That is unlikely to happen on Deadline Day, as offloading one of their star talents would leave Emery with just Ollie Watkins as a striker and no time to replace him.

Duran is a big part of Villa’s plans and the best place for the youngsters’ development is staying in Birmingham and working under a world-class manager, who can drag him to new heights.

Villa supporters have already seen the best of the former Chicago Fire striker this season and given he’s been handed the number nine jersey, an exit looks virtually impossible this late in the day, although it remains to be seen if Chelsea do table a bid.
