Moving into the January transfer window, Aston Villa are reportedly looking at forward options but they should look at a right-back to provide competition for Matty Cash.
In spite of a very good start to the season for Aston Villa, they will still be after some reinforcements in the January window.
Under the tutelage of Unai Emery, the Villans are yet to make a bad signing and will look to keep up that trend this winter.
In recent weeks, links to Nico and Inaki Williams have been rife and as a result, it would seem attacking options are wanted.
On top of this, a move to B6 for Marcos Acuna has also been rumoured although left back cover seems an odd choice. Lucas Digne’s top performances and Alex Moreno’s return to fitness mean it doesn’t seem necessary.
One position that the Villans haven’t been linked to is right back, in spite of only having one player who is natural in that role.

Why Aston Villa need competition for Matty Cash
This is nothing against Matty Mash, that is for certain. The Polish international has had a good start to the campaign, taking over from the departing Ashley Young.
He has started in every Premier League game as the Villa back line has been an almost immovable object this season. The former Nottingham Forest man has even played on the wing at times and has been referred to as ‘versatile‘ by his manager.
The issue would come if Cash was to get injured at some point. With FA Cup to come, Premier League and Conference League, Villa are going to have a lot of games.
Every other position in the Villans’ squad has at least one back up player which contributes to the depth. With Kaine Kesler-Hayden out on loan and no other options, right back cover is extremely light.
In Cash’s absence, Emery has opted to include Ezri Konsa in the right-back position but this isn’t sustainable moving forward.
Although Konsa can play there and has been good when he has done so, it doesn’t scream out as a great option.
Comparing this to the left-hand side, Digne and Moreno dovetail so well and provide different things and add a lot to the depth.
A more defensive-minded right-back option, in the mould of Juan Foyth, could be an ideal recruitment for January.
With Villa criticised in some circles for their lack of clean sheets, some added solidity via the right back slot could help solve that.
Utilising a more defensive player away from home, complimented by playing Cash in games at Villa Park could take Villa to the next level.
