Following rumours over a move during the summer, Aston Villa have seen links to Marcos Acuna reignite for the January transfer window.

It has been a great season so far for Aston Villa but that has not stopped them being linked with talent prior to the January window.

With Unai Emery at the helm, contestant improvement is going to be demanded moving forward.

Over recent weeks, the Villans have been linked to attacking reinforcements but now it appears they also want a defender.

Lucas Digne has been in top form this season and Alex Moreno is set to return from injury in the coming weeks. With that, links to a left-back do come as a surprise.

What has been said about Marcos Acuna?

According to the Spanish outlet, Mucho Deporte the Villans are looking at the Argentine, Marcos Acuna. This comes as Sevilla are willing to sell the full-back as his contract ticks down.

With all that being said, injuries have hampered the World Cup winner’s season so far. On that, Miguel Ángel Chazarri said: “In the middle of November, his season has not yet started. Punished by physical problems, the defender enters and leaves the team without taking the position. Acuña is not comfortable.”

His injury worries may pose a risk as a signing by Emery. Chazarri added to what he had previously said, saying: “Acuña has not enjoyed the expected continuity. In LaLiga, he has missed 4 games due to injury. Among all competitions, he has played only 10 matches. In three he had to be substituted at half-time.”

Even with his injuries, there is no doubt that the full-back has plenty of quality. He has the versatility to play in midfield if needed and would add some good depth to the Villans’ squad.

His contract situation will make him even more attractive as a signing. On that, Chazarri said: “Acuña’s contract ends in 2025. The decision to renew or sell must now be made. The second is closer than the first, as long as suitors appear. Sevilla does not want to have Acuña without renewing and exhausting his last days at the club.

It must be said that the injury concerns may worry fans as a potential signing marches on. The positive is the quality that he would add to the team. With Argentine links to fellow World Cup winner, Emiliano Martinez, it would be a useful signing.

Although with Digne and Moreno already at the club, unless one is set to depart, this signing doesn’t make much sense.
