Aston Villa full-back, Alex Moreno made his first appearance since an injury last season last night, for the Under 21s side.

Towards the end of last season, Aston Villa faced Liverpool in a 1-1 draw which helped secure European football for the Villans.

On the day, Unai Emery was forced into a substitution as Alex Moreno came off with a seemingly innocuous injury.

This couldn’t have been further from the case as Moreno hasn’t played a minute of senior football since.

With Lucas Digne, stepping up this season, the Spaniard hasn’t been as missed as much as first feared. In saying that, fans are looking forward to his return.

What has Alex Moreno said?

The 30-year old finally got some minutes in the tank following inclusion in the last two matchday squads.

He started against Swansea City for Aston Villa Under 21s. Taking to Twitter, the Spaniard posted: “Minutes for the legs..!”

It was an eventful game for him to make his return as the Young Lions managed to secure a 4-3 win over the Swans.

With 13 minutes left in the match, Villa were 3-1 down but thanks to Rico Richards and two from Kobei Moore, the win was secured.

With a hamstring injury as Moreno sustained, a comeback can not be rushed and it is good to see him back.

A fan on Twitter had asked the defender: “Feeling good this morning?”, to which the Villa man replied: “Very good, recovering well!”

This will be music to Aston Villa fans’ ears as they are ready for a long-awaited return by the Spaniard.

With his pace and attacking intent, he provides Emery with a completely different option down that left-hand side.

It must be said that with the Villans in fifth place, they haven’t necessarily missed him yet, but will be more than happy to see him return.
