Aston Villa fans are still probably pinching themselves at how well their team have started the Champions League campaign.
After securing a top-four berth in 2023/24, Aston Villa are now competing in the Champions League for the first time in their history.
Their latest European outing saw them clash with Serie A outfit Bologna FC 1909 at Villa Park on Tuesday evening.
Aston Villa came away with a 2-0 win thanks to goals from John McGinn and Jhon Duran, leaving them top of the table, just above Liverpool on goal difference.
Unai Emery’s side are now only the third team in the competition’s history to win their opening three Champions League games after Leicester City and Spanish outfit Malaga.
A number of the Midlands side’s players impressed during the win in midweek, coming in for heavy praise.
Youri Tielemans was wowed by Duran after he scored against the Italian side on Tuesday evening.

Aston Villa star named in Champions League Team of the Week after Bologna
Elsewhere, several Aston Villa players including Duran and Leon Bailey were impressed by Morgan Rogers against Bologna.
Rogers did something vs Bologna that only Jack Grealish has managed for Aston Villa as well, cementing himself as the MVP of the game.
However, while the ex-Middlesbrough ace stole the show in midweek, he was not the Villa player who made it into the Champions League Team of the Week.
The likes of Manchester City centre-back John Stones and Real Madrid sensation Vinicius Junior were included in the eleven.
And Vinicius was joined in the three-man attack by not Rogers but another Villa forward, Duran.
Jhon Duran going from strength to strength at Aston Villa
Aston Villa signed Durnan from MLS outfit Chicago Fire in the 2023 January transfer window.
He had a decent 2023/24 campaign, which saw him score five Premier League goals in 23 outings.
However, he continues to go from strength to strength this season, with the 20-year-old clearly having the potential to develop into a world-class striker.
Duran has already nearly matched his league goal tally from last term, scoring four in eight Premier League appearances.
And in all competitions, he has now found the net a very impressive seven times in just 12 games.
