Aston Villa have Premier League matters to deal with on Sunday, but you can’t help but talk about the Bayern Munich clash in the Champions League.

Yes, Unai Emery and the Aston Villa players will remain focused on Ipswich Town, but Bayern Munich, Harry Kane and Vincent Kompany are visiting town on Wednesday night.

On Saturday evening, Bayern Munich faced a blockbuster showdown with German champions Bayer Leverkusen on home soil, with Kompany’s side facing an injury scare with their star striker.

Kane was forced off with an injury ahead of the Villa game – going off after 86 minutes clutching his ankle – after a pretty anonymous display.

The England captain failed to muster a single shot at goal, with Bayern, despite having nearly 70% possession, struggling to beat Xabi Alonso’s side and watching their 100% start to the new season come to an end.

Aston Villa started their Champions League campaign with a bang, but their next opponents did it much better because they scored an incredible nine goals against Dinamo Zagreb with Kane finding the back of the net four times.

But will he be able to add to that next week? The player himself has responded to his injury against Leverkusen.

First of all, the 31-year-old, who has scored ten goals and supplied five assists in all competitions this season, told reporters in the Mixed Zone after Bayern’s draw against Leverkusen that he suffered a ‘painful’ tackle on the ankle.

He shared that ‘we will investigate it tomorrow’, with Bayern set to fly out to Birmingham on Tuesday, and added that ‘I assume I can play’, as German reporter Julian Buhl posted on Twitter.

“It happened during a tackle,” reported Buhl about Kane’s response to his injury. “It was painful, but it’s not too bad.

“We’ll investigate it further tomorrow. Possible to play against Aston Villa? I assume that I can play.”

Harry Kane v Ezri Konsa

If Kane is fit to play, then he will face his England teammate at Villa Park, before they meet up again for international duty in a fortnight.

Konsa shared that he’s spoken to Kane about the Villa clash and you presume he would want his fellow countryman to be fit.

At the end of the day, Villa are in Europe’s elite competition not just to make up the numbers, but to compete against the best.

And this is going to be the biggest test of their Champions League campaign, so you would want every Bayern play fit and rearing to go as possible.
