Aston Villa have set an asking price of £6.8m for one of their players as interest from Serie A giants AS Roma begins to heat up.

Aston Villa’s transfer window has been a slow burner so far but new additions are fast approaching.

Unai Emery is closing in on a move for Red Star Belgrade right-back Kosta Nedeljkovic as a £7.8m deal reaches its ‘final stages’.

The Villans also look set to launch a bid for 18-year-old Besiktas striker Semih Kılıçsoy this week after watching Wolves fail in their pursuit of the prolific forward.

Whilst the club is focused on landing some talented youngsters to aid their top-four ambitions, Villa could need to sell some of their fringe players to comply with FFP rules.

There are several that Emery is keen to get off the wage bill, including Leander Dendoncker, Bertrand Traore, Calum Chambers and Kourtney Hause.

It wouldn’t be a surprise to see any of the above players depart in this transfer window, however, watching Alex Moreno leave the club would be.

AS Roma want Alex Moreno and Aston Villa set asking price

According to Italian outlet La Repubblica, Moreno is a “concrete target” for Roma, who waved goodbye to manager Jose Mourinho yesterday.

The Serie A giants are reportedly looking for a replacement at left-back for Leonardo Spinazzola – who has been linked with a move to Villa – and could depart the club in the transfer window.

Despite his importance to the side, it is claimed that the Villans have set an €8m (£6.8m) asking price for the Spaniard, but they are also ‘willing to negotiate’ a loan deal.

After starting the season with an injury, Moreno lost his place in the side to Lucas Digne, however, he has since returned in the Frenchman’s absence having featured eight times in the Premier League since December.

Should Aston Villa sell Moreno?

Given Emery only has two options at left-back, it would be foolish for him to sell either of them.

The club would need to invest in that position if they did and considering they already have other fires to burn out, they can ill afford to let any of their key players depart.

Digne and Moreno have both been terrific under the Spaniard’s tutelage and although they are in their 30’s, waiting till the summer to assess their future seems like the most viable option.

That will provide Emery with time to weigh up any potential replacements and will give him one less position to worry about in this window.
