Aston Villa appear to have all but made their first signing of the January transfer window as Kosta Nedeljkovic looks set to join.

It has been a very quiet transfer window for Aston Villa as they are yet to make a single signing after two weeks.

This has seen plenty of players linked to the club in recent weeks the majority of which have been attacking-minded. From Emile Smith Rowe to Paulo Dybala there has been a clear focus on forwards.

With that being said, Unai Emery has guided his team to a great first half of the season with them now sitting in third place.

This weekend has seen the Villans draw 0-0 with Everton in a slow attacking performance. Despite this, Villa appear to have struck a deal to sign a defensive player.

Aston Villa make move to sign Kosta Nedeljkovic

It has been a long time coming but now it appears there is an incoming at Villa Park as it has been reported this week.

Reports have suggested that Kosta Nedeljkovic is set to make the move to Villa from Red Star Belgrade this month. This has been reported by Fabrizio Romano who is typically spot on in the window.

On that, he said: “Aston Villa are closing in on deal to sign 2005 born right back Kosta Nedeljković from Crvena Zvezda!

“He’s set to stay at Serbian club until end of the season. Talks at final stages for less than €9m. Villa have been scouting Kosta for long time.”

As a result of this, Villa won’t see the benefit of signing the 18-year old until next season at the earliest, should he be loaned. Given his age, he is certainly one for the future and at £7.8m, he has got to be highly rated by the Villans right now.

Nedeljkovic has had his breakthrough season this campaign. He has made 16 appearances for Red Star including four in the Champions League.

He even has experience playing against English opposition as he started in his side’s 3-2 defeat to Manchester City, last month.

It must be said that this appears to represent a change in tact for the Villa hierarchy and Monchi as they look at a different market.

These kinds of dealings have been done to great success by Brighton and maybe Villa have taken notice and inspiration.

Nedeljkovic comes to B6 as a rather unknown quantity to almost all Villa fans but with his age and cost taken into account, he must be something special.
