Aston Villa are set to continue their pursuit of Morgan Rogers as he once again impressed despite Middlesbrough losing 6-1 to Chelsea this week.

The January transfer window fever appears to have captured Aston Villa as they look to be acting quickly right now.

This started with the signing of Kosta Nedeljkovic who joined from Red Star Belgrade before being loaned back out.

There have been rumours suggesting that Leander Dendoncker is ready to move on from Villa Park with Napoli interested. His move could spark Villa into life as they move quickly to bring in more reinforcements.

The rumour mill continues to move at full speed with plenty of reports coming out. There is one link that has refused to go away which has linked Aston Villa with Morgan Rogers.

Aston Villa continue to be linked with Morgan Rogers

This week saw Middlesbrough travel to face Chelsea in the semi-final of the EFL Cup. They had a 1-0 lead coming into the tie as another Villa target, Hayden Hackney scored.

It is safe to say that it didn’t go as Michael Carrick would have wanted as his side were smashed for six and missed out on the final.

Despite a generally disappointing night, Boro did have one moment which got their fans off their seats. Rogers broke forward, cut inside and curled a perfect effort into the bottom corner from the edge of the box. This showed the quality that Villa have been looking to get their hands on.

Discussing him on social media, James Benge had plenty to say about the Englishman on Twitter following a positive performance.

On that, he said: “Morgan Rogers has looked Premier League ready all night long and gets the consolation the travelling Boro faithful deserve with a gorgeous right-footed shot bent into the far post.”

Given the quality that he showed in an extremely frustrating team performance, he is clearly a player on the rise.

This goal-scoring performance against Premier League opposition certainly won’t have put Villa off in their pursuit of the youngster.

It had felt as if Carrick was holding out for this semi-final before making a decision on allowing Rogers to depart in January. With that now behind him, a decision should be made in the remaining week of the window.

Despite previously not having much knowledge about the 21-year old, Villa fans are now very excited about his signing.
