Aston Villa match winner, Matty Cash has opened up about his winner and the added benefit the team were given as a result of the win.
Over the weekend, Aston Villa were able to secure their place in the fourth round of the FA Cup for the first time since 2016.
Despite struggling to create many clear-cut chances, Unai Emery’s side was able to come away with a 1-0 win.
With the clock ticking down towards added time, Matty Cash took aim from range and his attempt paid off. A wicked deflection off a Boro defender saw the ball spin into the bottom corner sparking wild scenes in the packed-out away end.

It had looked for all the world like a replay was on the cards which would have cut into the Villans’ Premier League break.
Following the upcoming Everton match, there is a week’s break but an FA Cup replay would have been played in this time. Now the Villa players can enjoy that break and Cash wants to take some kudos for that.
Matty Cash makes hilarious holiday claim
Given that Villa are sitting in second place in the Premier League, a win over a Championship side should have been expected.
The late goal from Cash came as a huge relief to the travelling away fans. This as they had a long journey staring them in the face. The winner made it all worth it and clearly meant a lot to the players. Little did we know there was an added benefit.
Discussing that point with the Express and Star, the Polish international has given a peak behind the curtain at Villa Park.
On that, he said: “To be honest, we didn’t want a replay. We wanted a few days off!
“The boys were buzzing with that. I said to them in the dressing room, they can pay for my holidays now! We want a break with all the games we have played in Europe. As I said, they can pay for my holidays!”
This result sees the Villans go straight into the hat for the fourth-round draw as opposed to a dreaded replay next week.
Now the squad will have some rest and recuperation time. This will benefit them coming into the rest of the league and Europa Conference League campaign.
Continuing on, Cash added: “We want to be competitive in every game we play. Whether that is in Europe or in the Premier League or in the FA Cup.
“We have a good team, a great manager and feel we can go on and do things. Every game we want to play we want to win.”
It was far from a pretty result but it was a win nonetheless. Villa fans can be hopeful of some silverware this season as they are fighting on three fronts.
