Aston Villa striker, Jhon Duran is said to have had private discussions with Unai Emery regarding injury concerns that have plagued him all season.

It has been a slow season for Jhon Duran with Aston Villa which has seen him grow more frustrated week on week.

By comparison, it has been a superb season for Unai Emery and his side which sees them firmly in the hunt for Champions League football.

In recent weeks the form has slowed down with two goalless draws in the last two games against Everton and Chelsea.

With that being said, the Villans haven’t been short of goals this season as Ollie Watkins has been on top of his game. The Englishman has racked up nine goals and eight assists so far this campaign, according to FotMob.

As a result of this, there has been a lack of minutes being given out to Duran who has still managed to score twice. Despite this, he has been linked with plenty of clubs over the course of the January transfer window.

Jhon Duran discussions with Emery

It has been no secret that Duran has wanted to force a move through this winter. Teams from giants like AC Milan to Premier League sides like Chelsea and West Ham United.

Although this may be the case, it doesn’t appear that the Villans will want to let him go. This is unless they can acquire a replacement.

There have been links to signings such as Armando Broja this week but nothing appears to be concrete just yet.

Now a report by The Athletic has suggested that Duran has been in conversation with Emery behind closed doors.

On that, they said: “The Colombia international’s application has brought mixed results this season. There have been concerns over his physical condition upon returning from international duty.

“Similarly to Bertrand Traore with Burkina Faso, leaving Emery having to fend off questions. Privately, the manager and the player have held discussions. Duran has missed five games this season through three separate injuries, including a toe infection in October.”

It is weird as to the number of injuries that Duran picks up and how they always seem to fall around certain games.

This weekend for example saw him pull out of the FA Cup clash against Chelsea just days before the game. Given that the links to the Blues had begun to break around a similar time, it definitely seems convenient.

It is unclear to fans as to what the situation is but whatever it is there is certainly an issue. Here’s to hoping it gets sorted out before the January window slams shut.
