A player Steven Gerrard signed in the summer of 2022 is now in advanced talks to seal an exit out of Aston Villa before the 11 pm deadline.

Aston Villa supporters will usually strap themselves in for an exciting climax to the transfer window but on this occasion, adhering to PSR rules means Unai Emery can’t add to his seven signings so far.

This was evident on Thursday night as primary target Lutsharel Geetruida is now undergoing a medical ahead a switch to fellow Champions League outfit RB Leipzig.

Villa never made a bid for Geertruida, who was valued at £30 million but could now go for Trevoh Chalobah from Chelsea if they manage to sell Diego Carlos.

For now, though, it’s exits out of the club that are dominating the headlines at Villa Park with the latest player now in ‘advanced talks’ to join a European giant.

Steven Gerrard flop Leander Dendoncker in ‘advanced talks’ to join Anderlecht

Emery is willing to offload three players on transfer Deadline Day.

Carlos is on the chopping block. He’s previously attracted interest from Fulham and could be sold to fund a move for Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah.

Enzo Barrenechea, meanwhile, is undergoing a medical in Spain ahead of a season-long loan move to Valencia while Leander Dendoncker is the third.

The 29-year-old midfielder was signed by Steven Gerrard from Wolves in the summer of 2022 but has failed to break into Emery’s plans and spent the second half of last season on loan at Napoli.

Dendoncker was previously subject to interest from Las Palmas however, wages were a stumbling block. Now, it’s his former club Anderlecht who appear most likely to sign him, with The Athletic reporting that Dendoncker is in ‘advanced talks’ over a loan move to the Belgian Pro League side.

What Aston Villa are expected to do on Deadline Day

Frustratingly, it appears Villa won’t do any business on Deadline Day despite needing at least one new defender through the door.

The Villans need to sell before they can buy, though, and with Chelsea placing Jhon Duran on their striker shortlist, don’t be surprised to see a late bid come in for the Colombian.

Even so, it’s highly unlikely they’d see one of their most promising talents in the dying embers of the window as they’d have no time to source a replacement.

Indeed, Villa fans are anticipating an unusually quiet end to the window however, anything can happen between now and the 11 pm cut-off point.
