Aston Villa attempted to sign Abde Ezzalzouli over the summer but it has been reported the winger rejected a move.

Over the summer, Aston Villa made five signings with most of those coming straight into the starting XI plans.

With Moussa Diaby and Nicolo Zaniolo, it was clear that Unai Emery wanted some attacking reinforcements.

There were rumours linking the club to more players than they ended up signing, including winger options.

Players like Nico Williams and Pedro Goncalves have been consistently linked to the Midlands since the window.

These links may have not been so rife if a certain move happened over the summer, however.

What happened with Abde Ezzalzouli?

It has been reported by Sport Witness via SPORT that the Moroccan flat-out refused to move anywhere outside of Spain.

The winger was of interest to the Villains as they looked to shake up the attacking area of their squad. Alongside Bayer Leverkusen, contact was made to attempt to sign him.

With that being said, Ezzalzouli ‘completely refused’ to leave the Blaugrana for anywhere that wasn’t in Spain.

Despite contact with Atletico Madrid, the winger made the move to Real Betis. So far this season he has just one goal in 10 LaLiga matches.

Should Aston Villa have signed him?

He actually may have proved to be a useful signing for Emery’s squad and system this season.

Being able to play on the left-hand side of midfield would allow him to fly in tandem with Lucas Digne or Alex Moreno.

Despite being a technical dribbler who likes to get on the ball, he is also proficient in a defensive sense.

He is let down slightly by the technical side of his game when it comes to holding on to the ball and passing it off.

Given he is just 21-years old, Emery could have moulded him into a great squad player and maybe more. Guess we will never know.
