Aston Villa manager, Unai Emery has reacted to the Brentford clash which saw many of his players booked in fights on the pitch.

Keeping up their great form this season, Aston Villa secured yet another three points as they beat Brentford 2-1.

Despite going 1-0 down to a Keane Lewis Potter goal, Unai Emery’s side were able to come back to win once again.

Villa got back in the game thanks to Alex Moreno’s first Premier League goal upon his return to the starting XI.

The comeback was complete when Ollie Watkins latched onto a loose ball in the box to nod home his ninth of the season.

The game turned on a red card for Ben Mee whose dangerous tackle on Leon Bailey was penalised by VAR. Following this moment there were 12 cards which left the managers far from happy.

What has Unai Emery said?

The Spaniard ran onto the pitch at one point to stop his players, namely Emi Martinez, from getting involved with Brentford players.

This left Emery far from impressed. For the whole time these silly yellow cards were being picked up he showed his disdain on the sidelines.

Discussing his feelings post-match with the BBC, it was clear to see that the Villa manager was unhappy with his players.

On that, he said: “I’m not happy with our behaviour. I want to analyse with the players because it was not normal.

“It’s not my spirit. We try to respect everything, but when they’re on the pitch they’re excited and some nerves were showing. Things can happen like that, but I want to work on it.”

The game went from a rather dull Sunday afternoon affair before turning into a pretty uneasy and angry affair. There were 14 cards throughout, two reds and 12 yellows. This is just two less than the all-time record in a match between Tottenham and Sheffield United earlier this season.

Continuing on about his side, Emery added: “The red card and some individual behaviour in my team, I don’t want them to do it, I don’t want these situations in my team.

“My message is: respect everything, respect the opponent, respect ourselves, respect the referee. We lost a bit of our mind in some behaviours.”

Emery has morals and he wants his side to share them and against Brentford, they didn’t do that. This will be something he drills into his players this week and it is unlikely that this will happen again this season.
