This weekend, Alex Moreno made his first Premier League start of the season as Aston Villa came back from behind to win 2-1 against Brentford.

After a feisty affair in the capital, Aston Villa came away with a 2-1 win against Brentford despite going behind.

It was yet another comeback away win for Unai Emery and his side who fell behind to a Keane Lewis Potter goal on the brink of halftime.

Following a Ben Mee red card, the Villans were able to come back and secure all three points. Alex Moreno scored the first before Ollie Watkins grabbed the winner.

The latter’s goal sparked some controversial moments and resulted in plenty of cards including a red for Boubacar Kamara.

Villa fans were happy to grab the win and take advantage of Manchester City and Liverpool dropping points at home. They were also happy with the returning performance of Moreno.

How good was Alex Moreno vs Brentford?

After the injury that he sustained against Liverpool towards the end of last season, he has barely been involved since.

He made his first start of the season against Legia Warsaw in the Europa Conference League. Moreno also grabbed his first Villa goal in that game.

Against Brentford, with Lucas Digne suspended, the Spaniard came in for his first Premier League start of the season and scored his first league goal.

On the defensive side of things, his performance could have been improved. This as he was at fault for Lewis Potter’s opener due to not clearing the ball. With that being said, according to SofaScore, he made four clearances and two interceptions.

He had 74 touches throughout the game and had a pass accuracy of 89% which helped keep the Villans ticking forward. He was probably deserving of his goal as he had four shots throughout the game and then took his goal very well.

It has been said by the Birmingham Mail that his defensive performance wasn’t good enough. With that, they praised his attacking side: “Moreno made his first league start of the season this afternoon and looked dangerous going forward.”

With the Spaniard back in the team it begs the question whether or not Digne will return to the starting XI for Sheffield United.

A busy schedule lies ahead of Villa so squad rotation will be vital to keep things fresh so Moreno will likely receive plenty of minutes.
