Aston Villa returned to Premier League action on Saturday with a home tie against Bournemouth.

Fresh off the back of yet another Championship League win, Aston Villa were looking to round out their October by going undefeated in all competitions.

Aston Villa hosted Bournemouth in a 3pm kick-off at Villa Park, aiming to leapfrog Arsenal and move up to third in the Premier League table.

Villa’s previous league fixture saw them come away with a 3-1 win over Fulham and they likely fancied their chances of picking up another three points against the Cherries.

Bournemouth began the day in the bottom half of the Premier League table but had secured a massive victory over Arsenal in their previous tie.

Paul Merson sent a warning to Aston Villa ahead of Bournemouth after playing European football in midweek.

Opposition fans make same point about Unai Emery’s Aston Villa vs Bournemouth

In his prediction above, Merson feared Villa would be ‘flat’ owing to their Champions League commitments.

However, after less than half an hour of action against Bournemouth, it was clear Aston Villa had found their grove.

John McGinn had a goal ruled out by VAR after 28 minutes but it was something else that caught the eye of opposition fans on social media, with many taking to X/Twitter to praise Villa’s style of play under Unai Emery.

One fan wrote: “Aston Villa are one of the best footballing teams in the league. Brilliant style of play. If Liverpool don’t win the League; I hope they do.”

A second added: “What I enjoy about watching Aston Villa, a team that knows exactly what it is playing for, with a concept of football that I love.”

A third then wrote: “Aston Villa is a great team man,” while another added: “Aston Villa is becoming a super team” and a fifth simply stated: “Aston Villa is balling like stupid.”

Manchester United fans in particular seemed to be in awe of Villa, with one fan writing: “Look at liquid free-flowing football that Aston Villa is playing. Then tomorrow I’ll go and watch nonsense from Ten Hag.”

And a second added: “Aston villa should camp in Old Trafford for a refresher course on how football should be played.”

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery underappreciated

Despite arguably overachieving with Aston Villa over the last 12 months, Emery has perhaps not been as appreciated as he should be in England.

This may be down to his time at Arsenal where the Spaniard became something of a meme on social media.

However, Villa fans are unlikely to care as he has taken the club to heights they have not achieved previously in the Premier League era and has them playing great football in the process.
