England boss Lee Carsley has shared an injury update on Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa after he limped off in the win over Greece.

Aston Villa’s reputation with the England national side is growing, as along with Konsa’s and Ollie Watkins’ inclusion, Morgan Rogers earned his first call-up to the Three Lions.

Lee Carsley’s men travelled to Greece knowing that winning by two goals or more would put them in the driving seat at the top of the Nations League Group B.

Watkins gave England the best start possible after he was given the nod over Harry Kane, scoring within seven minutes on the clock.

Rogers was introduced halfway through the second half for his debut before Odysseas Vlachodimos’s own goal and Curtis Jones’s first goal for the senior side wrapped up all three points.

It was a happy night for Carsley’s young guns, as they produced a fine performance, but Villa fans were left fearing the worst after Konsa limped off at half-time.

Lee Carsley provides Ezri Konsa injury update

Villa have suffered multiple injury problems at the start of this international break, as Ian Maatsen was sent home from Netherlands under-21 duty. Meanwhile, Pau Torres suffered a muscular problem with Spain.

Unai Emery could ill-afford another one of his players to suffer an issue during the break, so Konsa going off at half-time would have filled him with dread.

Luckily, Carsley has now provided an update on the 27-year-old, and he confirms that Konsa has a ‘slight problem’ with his hip and will have a scan today to determine the extent of the issue.

Carsley confirms that any kind of doubt will see him return to Bodymoor Heath but he did reveal that the Villa defender was walking around and in a good place after the game.

Konsa’s 2024/25 Aston Villa statistics

The above update from the interim England boss sounded somewhat promising, as there appeared to be no serious injury issue, and hopefully, that will be the case once the scan is revealed.

For Aston Villa, they will be praying that Konsa is fit enough for their next Premier League fixture against Crystal Palace, as his importance cannot be understated.

Konsa has filled in at right-back for Matty Cash since he suffered an injury but he’s far better as a centre-back, and that is where he has excelled alongside Pau Torres.
