Former Aston Villa star, Gabby Agbonlahor believes that Douglas Luiz will stay at Villa Park despite Arsenal looking at the Brazilian.

Douglas Luiz signed for Aston Villa back in 2019 and after a tough start to his career in the Midlands, he has found his feet.

After being misprofiled by a previous manager, Unai Emery has found the perfect role for the Villains’ number six.

As a box-to-box midfielder, alongside Boubacar Kamara, he has become one of the best players at the club.

So, so good on the ball and great going forward and back, a truly great midfielder who is underrated by many.

What has Gabby Agbonlahor said about Douglas Luiz?

In recent weeks, Luiz has been on fire and as a result, opposition teams are starting to take notice of Villa’s Brazilian.

Against Luton Town, despite losing his goalscoring streak, he still was heavily praised.

Arsenal showed interest in his signature, but the former Manchester City man signed a new contract at Villa Park last year. This saw the midfielder given a wage of £75k per week.

In recent months, stars such as Ollie Watkins and Ezri Konsa have signed new deals and Luiz should be no different.

Speaking to TEAMtalk, Gabby Agbonlahor felt this was the case: “I’m hopeful he will extend that contract.

“The reason I think he will is that he’s starting every week, he’s playing in Europe, and he’s playing his best football.”

As it stands, Villa are contesting for the top four and find themselves sitting in fifth place in the Premier League.

With big clubs like Manchester United and Chelsea struggling, Champions League is a realistic target for this season.

On that point, Agbonlahor added: “Why wouldn’t you sign? Aston Villa is a massive club, and I’m sure he will follow the likes of Watkins, McGinn and Konsa.”

Many Villa stars have been committing their future to the club. Fans will be hopeful Luiz will be the next name to commit their future.

As a result of this, Agbonlahor finished saying: “It wouldn’t surprise me if the club can get that deal over the line.”
