Aston Villa have caused a meltdown at Birmingham City without the two even meeting in a fixture.
Unai Emery’s side are currently in the United States on a pre-season tour in preparation for the upcoming 2024/25 campaign.
Aston Villa will play in the Champions League next term after securing a top-four Premier League finish in Emery’s first full year at the club.
While Villa’s focus is on preparing for the glitz and glamour of playing among Europe’s elite, the club have caused their Birmingham neighbours to have a meltdown from afar.

Birmingham City fans fume after Juninho Bacuna apologises for wearing Aston Villa shorts
The news breaking from Birmingham City is the uproar surrounding Juninho Bacuna’s decision to wear Aston Villa shorts whilst on his holidays.
Bacuna was pictured training in Villa shorts on social media, causing Blues fans to fume over his choice of attire.
Reaction to the 26-year-old’s wardrobe has led to the midfielder posting a public apology on Instagram, which reads:

“Just wanted to say the shorts I’m wearing in that video is my brother’s shorts from the time he was playing at Villa almost 8 years ago and I was at his house doing some training and had those shorts on, there is nothing behind it of so ever.
“Everyone is making such a small thing into something big while it is shorts from my family that used to play for them, my apologies if it does look wrong but that wasn’t the intention I was training to stay fit for the new season. UTB forever.”
With a rivalry so fuelled by hatred, it’s understandable why the Blues are so outraged by Bacuna’s decision to wear Villa shorts, with many now reacting to his apology.
Villa and Blues fans react to Bacuna’s apology
It’s fair to say that perhaps Bacuna wasn’t aware of what he was about to cause when he pulled on the Villa shorts to train in pre-season.
The midfielder was met with a wall of angry Blues fans, one supporter said, “Typical modern-day player I’m afraid, does not think like a fan. You wonder why we got relegated with people like this on the team.”
Birmingham City supporters weren’t the only fans to get involved in the shorts saga, as Villa fans shared their thoughts on the wardrobe mishap.
One Villan said, “He knows who the pride of Birmingham is,” with another taunting Blues fans by saying, “Same agent as Jhon Duran.”
The supporter found some humour in the situation, referring to Jhon Durans’ disrespectful gesture on social media last week, as the Colombian eyes a Villa Park exit.
For Blues fans, it’s a significant part of pre-season having to correct Bacuna’s wardrobe choices, in what has become fuel for banter for Villa supporters towards their rivals.
