Since Unai Emery‘s arrival in the second city, it has been a continuous rise in quality of performances’ and players.

Emery secured Conference League football for the club last season, but this year has started even better.

Villa have made countless good decisions already this season which is behind the rapid rise into contenders in the last year.

Squad quality has already proved itself this season. Sitting in fifth just four points off top, which has seen certain pundits explain that Villa are in a title race this season.

Villa have a ‘world class’ squad

Speaking to The Herald, 17-year-old Villains striker Rory Wilson has insisted the squad is really strong, but he is determined to push himself into that squad.

“It’s a really strong squad we have,” he continued. “I need to keep pushing on and if I get the opportunity, just try my best.

“Obviously, the standard down there is top drawer especially with the first team. There are world class players everywhere.”

Those at the club are rightfully very excited about Wilson, who has scored 12 goals this season already.

“I have scored 12 goals this season including the Scotland one on Sunday.

“I need to try and push on. We’ll wait and see how many goals I score. I take it game by game.

“I don’t have that much involvement with the first team, just now and again. I think it is really important though if I get the opportunity to go and take it and learn as much as I can.”

Wilson on McGinn

Wilson then continued to praise John McGinn, who is likely a Scotland icon for Wilson.

“There are good challenges with the [Aston Villa] 18s and 21s so it is just a case of me pushing on.

“I speak to John McGinn now and again. He is good with all the young Scottish boys at Villa. He’s a top guy.”

McGinn has been on fire for club and country this season, and this isn’t the first or last time he’s been singled out for praise.
