Aston Villa’s Youri Tielemans sees himself as a Champions League level player according to Dean Jones, but many don’t see it.
Youri Tielemans joined Aston Villa in the summer to much fan-fare, given his status as a brilliant midfielder for Leicester.
However clearly Unai Emery hasn’t been impressed with what he’s seen from the Belgian, and much more is needed from Tielemans.
He hasn’t been convincing which has even seem calls for him to be dropped from the Belgium side.
Now, journalist Dean Jones has gave his verdict and admitted that Tielemans has a lot of work to do for Villa.

Dean Jones on Youri Tielemans
Speaking exclusively with GIVEMESPORT, Jones discussed Tielemans’ need to prove himself.
“It’s difficult because I think Tielemans has a certain reckoning of himself that perhaps not everybody else matches. He thinks he’s a top Champions League player, and everybody else thinks he’s just below that.
“So, if he is the player he thinks he is, he has to prove it. It’s a great club to do that with because Villa are on the up and up, and they are showing that with their performance levels, they can keep getting better. Villa are a good team to come into because everyone has a good vibe and is making good decisions.
“So, you should thrive when you come into the team. But we’ll have to see by the end of the season whether Tielemans is happy with this setup because we know from his time at Leicester that he tends to let people know about it when he’s not happy.”
Villa future not guaranteed
For a player on £150k-per-week according to Capology, Tielemans has done remarkably little good for the Villains.
With two really talented midfielders ahead of him, there’s no guarantee that he eventually wins Emery over, particularly as he notoriously isn’t a massive worker.
The good news for Villa is that even if he departs next summer, they’ll be making a profit.
