Aston Villa have made top-flight history after their 2-1 victory over Fulham at Craven Cottage.
Villa returned to the Champions League spots on Saturday afternoon with a massive victory in the capital. Ollie Watkins got both goals as Unai Emery’s side returned to winning ways in the Premier League.
It was a highly important three points for Villa who have struggled in 2024 so far. A mixture of inconsistent form and injuries saw the side temporarily move out of the top four until their most recent victory.
After the game, Emery even dedicated the victory to Boubacar Kamara after it was confirmed that the Villa midfielder would miss the rest of the season.
However, one thing that may have gone under the radar after the 2-1 win is the fact that Villa has made top-flight history thanks to the win.
Aston Villa join Liverpool in top-flight record
Going into the fixture, Villa were on a run of 10 consecutive Premier League victories against London teams. This had seen them record memorable victories against Arsenal and Spurs as well as Fulham three times.
The record stands at 11, after Liverpool beat 11 London clubs in a row in the Premier League between March 2019 and June 2020.
However, after Villa’s recent victory over Fulham, they now join Liverpool in having the most consecutive top-flight victories against London teams.
If Emery’s side want to take this title for themselves, they will have to beat Spurs at Villa Park on March 10.
Another impressive record for Unai Emery’s Aston Villa
Emery has now collected another impressive feat this campaign in what has been a memorable season.
Villa had already overseen a highly impressive run earlier this season when they won 15 consecutive Premier League matches at Villa Park, a club record.
This has helped them push for the Champions League places as well as become one of the favourites to life the Europa Conference League at the end of the season.
While this new record may not have any real meaning to the club, it shows how consistent they have been this season. London boasts some of the best teams in the division. Therefore, to win 11 consecutive games against them in the league is highly impressive.
