‘We’ve got McGinn, Super John McGinn’….
What a player. What a performer for Unai Emery’s Aston Villa. And somebody who is now getting the plaudits he deserves for his performances.
On Saturday, as Aston Villa created history during their 1-0 win over Arsenal, thanks to John McGinn’s goal, Tony Adams lauded the midfielder and how he is a ‘very clever’ player, as he told Premier League Productions (09/12/23 at 9:10 pm).
The 29-year-old runs around the pitch like he has a non-stop battery attached to him because it is infectious and it’s what makes him a great captain.
John McGinn caused Arsenal many problems yesterday, including their inability to get near him, as he opened the scoring inside seven minutes.
The way the £120k-a-week star (Spotrac) shuffled the ball across to his stronger foot, after being fed a brilliant ball by Leon Bailey, is what makes him a firm fan favourite inside Villa Park.
A stadium that has now seen Villa record a staggering 15 Premier League home wins on the bounce – a club-record after 149 years of existence.
And for every single one of those matches, John McGinn has proudly donned the armband.
John McGinn helps Aston Villa beat Arsenal
“He is a clever player, isn’t he,” said Adams. “A very clever player. He takes up some really, really great positions.
“I don’t think Arsenal ever got to grips with that square – he is taking three players with him (as McGinn runs into the penalty area just before his goal). He has peeled off one and it’s a great finish. That’s just a really clever position to take up and he has just put it away.”

Unai Emery is a genius
It has been decades and generations since Villa fans have been able to speak so highly of a Villa team, the coaching staff, the manager and the owners at the top.
This club is going places, make no bones about it. That was the aim when the owners first stepped foot into the club back when we were in the Championship.
Are we in a Premier League title race? In truth, the fact that it’s being asked is good enough so far.
Let’s throw as many punches as we can and whatever will be, will be!
The aim, of course, is to secure Champions League football and the longer the talk is around the title, then the easier it will become to finish in the top-four.
