Aston Villa have been linked to Romelu Lukaku, with Villa fans sharing the same opinion on the rumours.

The summer transfer window has been non-stop at Aston Villa ahead of the upcoming 2024/25 campaign.

Unai Emery’s side are preparing to play in the Champions League next term, with their work so far in the transfer market reinforcing the step-up in competition.

Seven new faces have arrived at Villa Park to bolster Emery’s options in the squad as the new season beckons.

As well as welcoming new players Villa have bid farewell to several talents too, including first-team regulars Douglas Luiz and Moussa Diaby.

Despite Villa’s strong start to the summer, it’s expected that many more movements will happen at Bodymoor Heath before deadline day, with another rumour now circulating.

Aston Villa fans react to transfer rumour about Romelu Lukaku

This week, it has been suggested that Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku is nearing a move to Villa, news that has come out of the blue.

The report comes from Italian outlet CalcioNapoli24, who claim that the Blues have reached a ‘total agreement’ with Villa on a fee for the Belgian.

It was a revelation that brought shock to many, seeing Villa fans in total agreement when reacting to the report on X.

One supporter urged Villa to look at Tammy Abraham instead of Lukaku saying, “I’d rather have Tammy back, but I trust Unai and his judgment.”

Other fans took the news to be a joke, both referencing April Fools, “1st of August mate, not 1st of April” and, “Is it April Fools already?”

The overall consensus from Villa fans is that Lukaku is not wanted in Emery’s squad, as one supporter said, “Hopefully not,” to the news, with another agreeing with, “Please no.”

It seemed as though the primary concern was the lack of form that the striker has shown in the Premier League since leaving Everton.

In his final season with the Toffees, Lukaku netted 25 goals in the English top flight, something that some fans suggest he’s incapable of repeating.

“No to Lukaku he is past his best,” one supporter said, with another Villa fan saying, “Hopefully not best days have gone imo,” in reaction to the transfer rumours.

Positives and negatives to take from Lukaku rumours

Of course, fans are concerned as Lukaku today isn’t the same player that was impossible to defend against at Everton.

While the Belgian did score 13 goals in Serie A last season, his performances have been unconvincing, leading to Villa fans’ frenzy on X when the transfer rumour was shared.

That being said, Villa are in the market for a new striker as Jhon Duran’s future is uncertain and Lukaku certainly has the Premier League experience required to replace the 20-year-old.

Form aside, the most concerning aspect of the rumour is that the 31-year-old returns to Chelsea as the Blues’ top earner, with wage demands of £325k-a-week, via Capology

There is no option for Villa to pay the Belgian anywhere near that region, adding fuel to the fire of supporters’ opinions being against the forward signing.

It would be fascinating to see Monchi pursue the Chelsea outsider at this point in his career, with many fans unhappy at the speculation.
