Aston Villa fans know too well that Jhon Duran is a pretty hot-headed character.

The 20-year-old might be at the start of his career, but he isn’t shy to express his feelings, no matter how strong they are.

That was proven this summer when Duran told Aston Villa that he is better than Ollie Watkins, as he aimed to earn more game time under Unai Emery.

Despite talk of the hard-hitting striker leaving, not only did he stay put, but Duran also signed a new Villa contract.

Since then, he has been flying, but that’s in Aston Villa colours because, for Colombia, it isn’t going to plan, especially during this current international break.

Jhon Duran hits back at reporter after Colombia lose to ten-man Ecuador

Colombia are sitting fourth in their World Cup qualifying group and they are looking over their shoulders after losing back-to-back matches during this week.

On Tuesday, after conceding an early goal to Ecuador’s Enner Valencia, the away side were restricted to ten men when Piero Hincapie was sent off just before the break.

Duran started the game on the bench, but with that advantage, he was quickly summoned and out on that pitch.

But it didn’t work as Colombia didn’t just go on to lose, but they didn’t even manage to score, so you can imagine the feelings post-match were a little spiky.

That’s when Duran, doing his post-match interviews, asked a critical reporter ‘why aren’t you coach?’

Toque Sports posted on Twitter: He Got upset! The exchange between Duran and a journalist who asked him about the Colombian national team’s game today.

Reporter: “The team missed, on this occasion, to have got the point in Uruguay (Manuel Ugarte scored in 90+11 to win the game last week) and to have won today.”

Duran’s response: “It didn’t fail. What did you think we lacked?” And the reporter adds: “A lot. But what was missing for the point to be taken? It seems to me there were many repetitive crosses…”

Duran added: “Why aren’t you a coach? There’s a lot of talk from outside, you have to go in and play to see how things are.”

Duran’s stats for Colombia

Duran is flying in Villa colours, even when he is handed limited game time by his manager, but he can’t translate that onto the international stage.

He is still pretty young and inexperienced, so in that sense, he needs to keep his feet on the ground and relax a little because there is a lot to learn.

But he can’t seem to find that spark for this country, with two goals to his name from 523 minutes, as posted by Transfermarkt, and perhaps a message to the player that not everything is easy.

Emery is the right coach for Duran and if he continues to listen to the man in Villa’s dugout, then he will go on to become one of the world’s best.
