Unai Emery has just shared an injury update ahead of Aston Villa’s clash against Bayern Munich in the Champions League, including the latest on Matty Cash.

Aston Villa were held to a 2-2 draw by Ipswich Town on Sunday afternoon as Liam Delap’s 72nd-minute equaliser secured a point for the hosts.

Diego Carlos was lambasted as ‘really poor’ after the game as Delap ‘terrorised’ Carlos with his pace and movement in behind.

The Brazilian is now likely to be dropped for the visit of Bayern Munich, who could have Harry Kane fit to start, with youngster Lamare Bogarde perhaps coming in at right-back for Aston Villa.

Bogarde has filled in when necessary during the absence of Matty Cash, with Unai Emery now providing a fresh update on the Poland international.

Matty Cash isn’t fit to start vs Bayern Munich in the Champions League

Cash was first injured in the 2-0 defeat to Arsenal in August, as 18-year-old Kosta Nedeljkovic came off the bench to replace him inside 15 minutes.

The ‘outstanding’ 27-year-old has since missed six games through injury and has been a huge loss during that time, with Ezri Konsa often shoehorned into his unpreferred right-back role.

The former Nottingham Forest man recently offered Villa hope of a return, as Cash said he’d do everything to be fit for the clash against Bayern.

However, Emery has now ruled out the chance of him featuring completely, with the Spanish boss revealing that he’s returned to training but is unavailable for tomorrow’s match.

It was also confirmed that Boubacar Kamara and Tyrone Mings wouldn’t feature tomorrow, as while they’ve both returned to training, Emery doesn’t plan on giving Mings or Kamara first-team minutes till after the international break.

Who starts at right-back for Aston Villa vs Bayern Munich?

Villa’s only other key injury absentee is captain John McGinn, who will return to the squad in the next two to three weeks as he recovers from his mini setback.

Emery has spoken publically about how much of a miss the Scotsman will be, particularly for a clash against Bayern, with his role in the team somewhat irreplaceable.

That said, replacing McGinn isn’t the only problem facing Aston Villa, as the right-back spot is seemingly up for grabs.

Following the Carlos horror show against Ipswich, the former Sevilla centre-back is unlikely to start against Bayern, which could mean Konsa returns to centre-back alongside Pau Torres.

It means Emery realistically has Bogarde or Nedeljkovic to choose from at right-back, with the former more likely to feature.

Bogarde, like many Villa players, experienced his first taste of Champions League football against Young Boys, and although he struggled at times, the Dutchman could have a chance to redeem himself under the lights.
