Paul Merson was wowed by what he saw one of Aston Villa’s players do during the 3-3 draw against Brentford today.

The Bees came from 2-0 down to lead 3-2 before Ollie Watkins’ late finish salvaged what could turn out to be a valuable point come the end of the season.

The 28-year-old scored in the 39th minute before Morgan Rogers doubled Villa’s lead shortly after half time.

However, goals from Mathias Jørgensen, Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa turned the game on its head.

Speaking on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday, Merson was particularly impressed by what he saw one of Villa’s young guns do against Thomas Frank’s side.

Rogers put Villa two goals to the good before the away side’s unlikely turnaround. The £15million signing produced a superb turn and smart finish in the early part of the second period.

Something Merson was particularly impressed with.

Talking on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday, the former Villa midfielder said: “It’s the young lad Rogers, and what a good goal it is. He turns lovely and then gives the goalkeeper the eyes. Brilliant finish, brilliant goal.”

Morgan Rogers finding his feat in an Aston Villa shirt?

The £15million Villa paid Middlesbrough is looking better by the day. Emery has managed the 21-year-old’s minutes brilliantly. The Spaniard has gradually introduced the winger into his plans and is now reaping the rewards.

Since his move to Villa Park, comparisons have been made to Jack Grealish. Here are Rogers’ stats from the draw with Brentford [per FotMob].

Evidently, the former Boro man is rough around the edges, but considering his age and raw attributes, bringing him to the club could turn out to be a highly astute piece of business.
