With Aston Villa being quiet in this year’s January transfer window let’s take a look at the best three deals they have done in the last 15 years

There have been many ups and downs for Aston Villa in the last 15 years which has now culminated in the Villans sitting second in the Premier League.

With Unai Emery now at the helm, there is so much to be positive about in B6 so far this season and beyond.

Now we are in the January transfer window and despite plenty of rumours, there have been no incomings at Villa Park yet.

Let’s take a look at the three best signings that Villa have made over the course of the past 15 years in the January window.

Aston Villa best January signings

Darren Bent

At the time, Darren Bent was Aston Villa’s record signing as he signed for £18m potentially rising as high as £24m.

In his first half-season with the club, he managed to score nine and assist one, according to Transfermarkt. He represented a great signing at the time and was a huge part of the club not being dragged into a relegation battle that season.

Over his spell with the club, he made 72 appearances as he scored 25 goals before being sold to Fulham.

He was a good signing and given the other signings that the Villans have made in the winter window, he was actually quite good.

Conor Hourihane

A well-loved figure at Villa Park, Conor Hourihane joined the club from Barnsley in a superb deal worth less than £3m.

He went on to make 150 appearances for Aston Villa across two different divisions, according to FotMob. Given the price he cost and his ability, he was one of the best value-for-money signings the club has ever made.

It is safe to say that his goal against West Brom in the playoff semi-final was enough to justify the money spent on him.

Tyrone Mings

Although he was signed on an initial loan, bringing Tyrone Mings to the club was a stroke of genius by Dean Smith. He played a massive role as the Villans were finally promoted from the Championship at the third opportunity.

Following this he signed for the club on a permanent basis and has gone on to make 150 appearances in the Premier League.

In spite of his frustrating injury against Newcastle at the beginning of the season, his impact on the club since signing has been huge. Arguably the most impactful signing the club has ever made in a January window.
