Aston Villa fans will still feel a sense of deflation after their 2-0 defeat to Arsenal on Saturday at Villa Park.

Unai Emery went into the game knowing that he could cause Arsenal further pain after beating them home and away last season.

Ollie Watkins had a game to forget against Arsenal because he missed two huge chances to score, before Aston Villa were then punished by Leandro Trossard and Thomas Partey.

But despite all that doom and gloom, Manchester City’s Oscar Bobb has been impressed by the performances of one Aston Villa star after two matches.

Morgan Rogers caused Arsenal endless problems and he simply didn’t deserve to be on the losing side.

Villa fans were aware of the 22-year-old’s potential and performances because he showcased them towards the back end of last season – Rogers joined the club in January from Middlesbrough.

But he has taken his game to a different level after the opening two Premier League matches and it’s exciting to see what more he can produce.

The Manchester City academy product has been lauded and applauded for how he played against a very strong Arsenal midfield.

Rogers took to Instagram to state that ‘we will be back’ following an opening day home defeat, after going on a 16-game home winning run in 2023.

In the comments section of Rogers’ IG post, he was praised by several teammates because he deserved a lot more than leaving the pitch empty-handed.

Morgan Rogers’ performances

Jacob Ramsey applauded Rogers in the comments section and Ezri Konsa called his fellow teammate a ‘player’.

Lucas Digne posted fire emojis and Manchester City’s Bobb simply wrote ‘wow’, with Tommi O’Reilly stating ‘what a player’.

Chuba Akom added that Rogers is ‘balling’, with others agreeing that he was ‘unplayable’ against the Premier League title contenders.

Aston Villa’s clash at Leicester City

From a game where many were tipping Villa to lose, to one they now must win. This is a huge, huge game for Emery and his players.

Leicester City, Everton and Wolves are the next three fixtures. If the team can win all three, then it will calm the nerves and prove that they are ready to compete at the top again because there are no banana slips.

Villa’s Champions League campaign begins next month and they need to start that tournament with some form and confidence in the Premier League.

Of course, the summer transfer window is set to slam shut on Friday and will the club do any late deals? You sense some more defensive options need to be added.

Tyrone Mings is edging closer to a return, but he is Villa’s fourth-choice centre-back right now and that is a risk because he hasn’t played in a year.
