Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer were left in total agreement about Morgan Rogers following Aston Villa’s 2-0 defeat against Arsenal.

Aston Villa could hold their heads extremely high despite slipping to their first defeat of the season against the Gunners.

Unai Emery had Mikel Arteta’s number last term, completing a league double over his Spanish counterpart but it was the Arsenal boss who drew first blood in 2024/25.

Yet, the result could have been completely different if Ollie Watkins hadn’t spurned two golden opportunities to score, with the hosts later punished for their lack of clinical edge.

Leandro Trossard came off the bench to score the opening goal before Thomas Partey’s long-range strike crept into the corner and should have been saved by Emi Martinez.

Emery wouldn’t have been disappointed in the manner his side lost, especially as Morgan Rogers was showered with praise.

Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer think Morgan Rogers deserves an England call-up

Rogers was ‘unplayable’ for Aston Villa against Arsenal, with Jamie Redknapp stating his performance gave the Gunners ‘nightmares’.

The 22-year-old was simply breathtaking to watch on Saturday evening, while Tim Sherwood believes Rogers is now worth £80 million after his incredible display.

Sherwood wasn’t the only person to wax lyrical over the Aston Villa No.27, as Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker both agreed that he is deserving of an England call-up.

Speaking on the Rest Is Football podcast, Lineker said: “He burst through midfield. He was strong. I thought his performance was absolutely outstanding all around.”

Shearer then replied: “There’s no doubt that he was the standout player, I think. He was fantastic, wasn’t he?”

Lineker then added: “I’d be very surprised if he doesn’t make the [England] squad, but we have to once again say, you know, there are so many talented young English players, but he’s a little bit different, Micah.”

Rogers isn’t the only Villa player pushing for an England call-up

Villa struck gold with the £16 million signing of Rogers in January and he’s more than justified that fee in his eight months at the club.

Rogers will now be hoping to achieve England recognition, whether that is in the coming months or years, and he isn’t the only one.

Jacob Ramsey is another Aston Villa player who will want to receive a call-up from the Three Lions. A product of the Villans academy, the 23-year-old will want to put in a consistent run of displays.

Injury has hampered his development in the last year or so however, when playing at his best, he’s one of the finest talents at the club and perhaps in the Premier League.

In the 2022/23 Premier League campaign, Ramsey produced six goals and seven assists, with many taking notice of the youngster’s rise to stardom.

Now, he has to return to those levels and exceed them to be considered for an England call-up, along with his teammate Rogers.
