Unai Emery drops big injury update on Tyrone Mings and Boubacar Kamara

Villa are set to host their first home fixture of the new Premier League campaign on Saturday as they face title hopefuls Arsenal at Villa Park

Last season, Emery’s side came away with a memorable 1-0 victory, and the club will be aiming to repeat this feat on the weekend.

However, two key figures who will be missing for the tie are Mings and Kamara who are both recovering from long-term injuries.

In the build-up to the game, Emery provided an encouraging update on the duo as they edge closer to a comeback.

He said: “[Boubacar] is progressing a lot…And, more or less, in a few weeks, he will start training with us.

“[Tyrone] is close to starting to do something with the team. Now he’s working alone but he’s feeling very good.”

Questions surrounding Villa’s front line have dominated the latter stages of the transfer window.

While Ollie Watkins has always been guaranteed to start under Emery, who will be his deputy has been less clear.

Jhon Duran, who was the backup last season, was heavily linked to West Ham but that move has now collapsed.

However, according to reports, that has not stopped Villa from pursuing another attacker.

According to the Spanish publication El Desmarque, they claim that Villa are willing to pay up to £30 million to sign Atletico Madrid striker Samu Omorodion.

The striker spent last season on loan to Alavez, where he netted eight goals in La Liga.

After the success of the 2023/24 campaign, many of the Villa Park faithful rightfully claim that many of their players are amongst the best in the league.

Watkins finished as the top assister in the Premier League while Pau Torres proved to be a sensational addition to the backline.

However, one man who has truly established himself at Villa is Emi Martinez. The goalkeeper has been sensational since he joined the club and has won a World Cup and two Copa America’s for Argentina internationally.

Now, his form has earned the praise of pundit Chris Sutton who claimed he is the best ‘keeper in the league.

Speaking on the It’s All Kicking Off! Podcast, he said: “Emi Martinez, I think he’s the best goalkeeper in the Premier League,” Sutton said. “I think that you look at his performances over a prolonged period of time, the fact that he’s a World Cup winner as well and the way that he performed.

“I mean, what? I think he’s an elite goalkeeper and as I say, I can just imagine if I played at Villa very briefly, but he’s a goalkeeper, I think, who anybody would feel blimey, we’ve got real security behind us.

“And yeah, I do think he’s the best goalkeeper in the Premier League. I think a lot of people feel the same way, don’t they?”
