Aston Villa came from 2-0 down to record a quite stunning 3-2 victory over Everton at Villa Park on Saturday.
After half an hour, with Unai Emery watching his team dominate proceedings, he would have been wondering how on earth they were in such a situation when they were two goals down.
But Everton were clinical in front of goal and they punished the home side for their early mistakes, with Dwight McNeil and Dominic Calvert-Lewin getting on the scoresheet.
Before the international break, Sean Dyche’s side let a 2-0 lead slip after 87 minutes to lose at home to Bournemouth and the Aston Villa crowd sensed something would happen again, despite being down.
Ollie Watkins scored a goal in either half – and it probably should have been more – because he was combining ever so well with Morgan Rogers in the final third.
But then Villa’s man of the moment Jhon Duran came off the bench to score yet another winner to clinch a deserved three points for the team.
That goal is one for the Villa Park memory book because it was an outrageous effort from 30 yards and goals you simply no longer see in today’s modern game.
Duran rightfully got the plaudits for his performance, as did Watkins, but Jamie Carragher wanted to concentrate on another individual.
The former Liverpool player praised Rogers for his performance in the middle of the park and how he is a ‘machine’ because he doesn’t stop running with the ball, as he told Sky Sports Premier League (14/09/24).
Carragher labelled the England U21 international as ‘unstoppable’ when he is carrying the ball because he brushes off players with ease.

“He is a machine this fella,” said Carragher. “You see him open up his legs and run. He almost looks unstoppable.”

Emery wasn’t happy when Rogers was called up to England’s U21s, with the Villa boss claiming that he is now too good for that level.
England’s interim boss Lee Carsley was in attendance at Villa Park and he would have been pleased with Watkins’ two goals.

Watkins pulled out of England duty because of injury, so he will be eager to prove himself when the international break comes around again.
But you sense Rogers will also have a chance for a senior call-up because he is pushing and pushing amid his strong start to the season.
