Aston Villa fans were treated to another classic at Villa Park as Jhon Duran’s late stunner saw Unai Emery’s side come from 2-0 down to win 3-2.
All signs pointed to back-to-back defeats at Villa Park early in the game. Everton took advantage of a stuttering start by the Villains to go 2-0 up within 27 minutes.
Ollie Watkins managed to pull one back before half-time and then secured a brace just before the hour mark.
However, it looked to be two points dropped by Emery’s side against a struggling Everton side as the full-time whistle closed in.
Yet, Duran had different plans. Coming off the bench, the Colombian found the back of the net from 30 yards out with only 14 minutes left to play to secure all three points.
With the striker now netting his third winner in four games, Villa fans were quick to hail Duran for completing the comeback.
Jhon Duran nets ‘goal of the season’ as Villa fans labelled him as a ‘generational talent’

Duran has come into the 2024/25 campaign on fire. Despite not starting one game this season, he has now ensured the club have picked up three wins in the first four games.
It has been a massive turnaround for the striker who had an eventful summer. It appeared that Duran was moving to West Ham only last month, but the saga took a late U-turn.
Now, after netting his most recent goal, many fans have taken to X, formerly Twitter, to praise the striker, with many believing his screamer is the ‘goal of the season’.
As a result of the winner, many of the Villa Park faithful believe that Duran is a ‘generational talent’ and he is already on his way to becoming a superstar.
Aston Villa need to give Jhon Duran a new deal
After a turbulent summer for Villa and Duran, the Claret and Blue side now need to ensure his long-term future remains at Villa Park.
While West Ham and Chelsea were keen on the Colombian in the last window, if he keeps up this form, more clubs will come sniffing.
A new contract could help eliminate this early and stop any potential speculation mounting.
Duran will no doubt be a vital player for Emery this season and he cannot afford to lose him in January or in the coming summer.
