Ian Maatsen & Youri Tielemans seriously impressed by Aston Villa star after win v Wolves

Aston Villa showcased their comeback skills once again when they beat Wolves 3-1 on home soil on Saturday.

At the half-time break, Unai Emery had witnessed one of the worst 45 minutes from his team and they were deservedly 1-0 down.

It could and should have been worse for Aston Villa, but Wolves’ lack of cutting-edge cost them big time.

Ollie Watkins began the comeback after a brilliant through ball from Morgan Rogers, before Youri Tielemans played a delightful cross at the back post for Ezri Konsa to fire home.

The momentum was all with the home side and they punished their rivals even further when goal-crazy machine Jhon Duran netted again.

Villa fans never doubted Watkins would be scoring again after he went through a goal-drought of eight Premier League games – from last season – of not scoring.

But class is permanent for a reason because he now has scored in back-to-back league matches and he was unlucky that his goal was chalked off during Villa’s win against Young Boys in the Champions League in midweek.

The England man expressed his delight on Instagram at ‘three wins in a week’ and how ‘September’s not been too bad’.

Ian Maatsen, who was a half-time substitute, made a huge difference from the bench and he lauded Watkins for his efforts in the comments section of his IG post.

Maatsen told Watkins that he is ‘top’, with Morgan Rogers adding ‘another one’, including a fire emoji.

Lamare Bogarde, who was dropped to the bench for the Wolves game, told his teammate that he is a ‘top player’, as Matty Cash applauded the 28-year-old.

Tielemans sent a flexed arm, fire and raised hands emoji to Watkins, with Ian Taylor adding ‘Yes, Ollie’.

Ollie Watkins and Jhon Duran

You are lucky enough to have a top-level striker on your books, but Villa are even more blessed that they have two at their disposal.

There has been a lot of talk around Watkins and Duran, but it’s pretty clear as to who the main guy is under Emery.

Villa will play League One side Wycombe in the League Cup in midweek and you suspect big changes will be made, including Duran getting a start.

Both in terms of giving players a rest and further testing the bench strength, the Champions League tie against Bayern Munich is around the corner and Villa need to be as ready as possible.
