Aston Villa manager, Unai Emery has opened up about captain, John McGinn and his injury worry ahead of the Tottenham game.

This weekend, Aston Villa travel to face Tottenham Hotspur as they look to move up into the top four of the Premier League.

This season, with Unai Emery in charge, the Villans have been in top form as they currently sit in fifth place. Prior to kick-off, they sit five points off top spot and a win could potentially see them move as high as third.

Coming into this game, the Spaniard has had plenty to think about in the way of injuries. There is positive news as Jacob Ramsey is set to return to the squad as he has been back in training this week.

There were concerns that captain John McGinn could miss out against Spurs after he hobbled off for Scotland. Here’s the latest from Emery…

What has Unai Emery said about John McGinn?

Against Norway, while on international duty, McGinn was once again on top of his game. He was a key figure with a goal and an assist as the Tartan Army secured a draw.

With that being said, he was forced to come off late on. Hobbling off with an uncomfortable look on his face wasn’t what Villa fans wanted to see.

Discussing his captain’s fitness with the Birmingham Mail, the Spaniard has delivered some positive news.

On that, he said: “Yesterday he came back and he rested, but today he was training. Hopefully tomorrow, there will be no change and he will be okay for Sunday.”

Given his form in recent weeks, none more so than against Fulham, McGinn is as important as anyone.

It is safe to say that the Villa faithful will have their fingers crossed that the skipper will be fit. Given all the injuries Tottenham have, it is an opportunity for the Villans to secure a win. With McGinn in the side, it gives Villa a much better chance of securing all three points.
