Three gems who Unai Emery must prioritise handing new Aston Villa contracts to after Lamare Bogarde

Versatile Aston Villa youngster Lamare Bogarde has signed a new deal at the Villa Park club with the contract extension set to be announced imminently.

At just 20, Lamare Bogarde’s new Aston Villa contract shows the club believe the player who has had two spells on loan at Bristol Rovers has a big future.

Having sold young duo Tim Iroegbunam and Omari Kellyman this summer alongside re-signing Jaden Philogene having allowed the 22-year-old to join Hull City a year ago, Bogarde would have been unsure on his long-term Villa future.

However, the Dutch youth international appears to be in Unai Emery‘s plans moving forward as the centre-back who can also play in midfield is set to commit to the club by signing to new terms.

Once that is announced, here are the next three players Emery should prioritise sorting a new Aston Villa contract for.

Aston Villa need to tie Emi Martinez down to new contract

Emi Martinez is not set to see his current contract expire until summer 2027, but Emery should be pushing the club to secure new terms for the World Cup winner.

At 31, Martinez is still relatively young for a goalkeeper and his impressive displays are only going to garner more interest from Europe’s top clubs the closer he gets to the end of his contract.

Therefore, Villa should act decisively to extend the Argentine number one’s contract for as long as he is willing to agree as it is unthinkable that Emery could find an upgrade for the adored Martinez.

Jacob Ramsey new contract would show commitment to academy products

The sales of Iroegbunam and Kellyman could have been damaging for the aspirations of young footballers currently within the Villa youth set-up.

It will have been discouraging to see two Bodymoor Heath prospects allowed to leave as part of a book-balancing exercise to ensure compliance with PSR.

Jacob Ramsey is arguably Villa’s most successful youth product since Jack Grealish and Emery was reluctant to sanction the sale of the 23-year-old this summer despite the concerns regarding spending rules.

Ramsey’s contract also runs until 2027 but Emery could place a real show of faith in the talented midfielder with a new deal on the back of a season in which he struggled with injuries.

This would restore faith in the club’s academy as well as protect Villa from being forced to sell their asset for less than his true value in future.

Kadan Young could follow Laborde in being handed new Aston Villa deal

Whilst the first two players are firmly in the first-team, one player who will be hoping to join them in the not-too-distant future is 18-year-old Kadan Young.

The winger was regularly involved in first-team training after signing his first professional contract last season and will be aiming to ensure he can make that step up permanently.

With a number of deals for youth players between Premier League clubs this summer, Villa should be looking to ensure Young is a player who cannot be prised away by tying him down to a long-term deal.

He may have only signed professional terms last season but Young will hope to make his Villa debut this campaign or may even look to get his first taste of regular senior football by heading out on loan.
