Aston Villa will be aiming to put things right when they travel to Belgium to take on Club Brugge in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
These have been a few testing and frustrating weeks for Unai Emery.
Aston Villa conceded a 96th-minute equaliser to Bournemouth, then proceeded to get knocked out of the EFL Cup by Crystal Palace days later.
Before Tottenham put four goals past Villa over the weekend, despite the away side opening the scoring through Morgan Rogers and going into the break ahead.
There is always light at the end of the tunnel and Emery has it in the Champions League.
After three matches, Villa are sitting top of the Champions League table and they have every chance of making it four in four against Club Brugge.
Jamie Carragher asked an intriguing question about the Midlands side in Europe’s elite competition.
Can Aston Villa win the Champions League under Unai Emery?
Given that Aston Villa have won three in three, they now have to aim for a top-eight finish, progression into the knockout stages and a much easier tie on paper.
Carragher stated ‘I am not daft’ and he understands Villa have history, in regards to winning the 1982 European Cup.
But he stated that they aren’t an ‘elite’ team in Europe because of how long they have spent in the wilderness.
Although, he did pose the question about whether or not they could win the competition given what they have at their disposal, as he told the Overlap.

“I know Aston Villa have won the European Cup, I am not daft, but you’re probably not seen as one of the elite in Europe because you haven’t been in the competition for so long,” said Carragher.
“But the fact that you are in the Premier League, you have got Unai Emery as the manager, the funds you have to buy players or the squad that you have created. He is always making changes from the bench.
“Do you think you have an outside chance of getting far in this competition? And more chance of winning that than the Premier League.”
Aston Villa’s remaining Champions League fixtures
On paper, you could argue that Emery has dealt with the toughest game after Villa beat Bayern Munich.
But there are still a few tricky ties to deal with, especially on the road, starting with the clash against Club Brugge on Wednesday night.
After that, Douglas Luiz returns to Villa Park with his Juventus side on November 27, before two games on the road.
It’s a trip to Germany to take on RB Leipzig on December 10 – they have lost their opening three matches – and then there is a break before the Champions League resumes again on January 21 against AS Monaco.
Before this revamped Champions League format is rounded off with an all-British clash between Villa and Celtic on January 29.
