Gabby Agbonlahor has written an emotional poem after Aston Villa secured an incredible victory over Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

From being in the Championship six years ago to celebrating a win over Bayern Munich in the Champions League, Aston Villa’s journey is arguably one of the greatest in recent times.

Spearheaded by the masterful Unai Emery, Villa fans perhaps still won’t believe their eyes when watching their side in Europe’s elite competition.

On Wednesday night, Jhon Duran’s superb late winner and the heroics of Emi Martinez sparked scenes of jubilation inside Villa Park as they repeated the outcome of the 1982 European Cup final.

It was an incredibly special night for everyone involved and it was a fitting result given the recent passing of Villa legend and 1982 finalist Gary Shaw, who Gabby Agbonlahor mentions in a poem he wrote after the match.

Gabby Agbonlahor shares ’emotional’ poem after Aston Villa win vs Bayern Munich

Agbonlahor is regarded as a Villa legend. He made 391 appearances during a 13-year stint and is the club’s record goalscorer in the Premier League.

The 38-year-old was part of the team that finished bottom of England’s top flight in 2016 and were relegated to the Championship.

Now, the clubs current situation is a far cry from where they were previously and that brings joy to lifetime supporters such as the ex-Villa striker.

Reflecting on their historic Champions League victory on Wednesday, Agbonlahor had to hold back the tears as he wrote an emotional poem on the game.

Speaking to Alan Brazil on talkSPORT, it read: “We’ve been beaten and broken,

“Frowned upon with pitty,

“But we’re back Al, I know it, we’re the talk of the city,

“Last night was incredible, hear the Villa Park roar,

“As we all took a moment to think of our own Gary Shaw,

“Dispatched of the Munich, Juventus will get a good beating too,

“As we dream of repeating what we did in 1982,

“Emi Martinez, you hero, the world’s number one,

“You’ll be cast up in bronze once your Villa story is done,

“Two years of our Unai, it’s the best rollercoaster,

“While the Blues prep for Shrewsbury in the Bristol Street Motors,

“Villa Kings of Europe try and stop us if you can,

“But you won’t, not a chance, cause we’ve got big Jhon Duran.”

Where are Aston Villa in the Champions League table

Following Villa’s 3-0 win over Young Boys and 1-0 triumph against Bayern Munich, Villa are comfortably sat sixth in the Champions League table, with only Borussia Dortmund, Brest, Benfica, Bayer Leverkusen and Liverpool ahead of them on goal difference.

With six matches left to go in the league phase, the Villans are in a position to qualify automatically into the round of 16 at this stage but there are some tough fixtures to come, including against Juventus and Monaco.

It would be a remarkable achievement if Emery was able to mastermind a top-eight finish and advance into the round of 16, getting off to a brilliant start.

Impressively, Villa’s only two clean sheets so far this season have both come in Europe’s elite competition, which suggests the players are motivated for the occasion.

Hopefully, this winning run continues, with a home clash against Bologna up next at the end of October.
