Unai Emery is set to make another addition to his squad this summer as Aston Villa look to reinforce their backline.
Despite many high-profile players joining Villa Park throughout the summer, one big position has been left untouched.
In 2024, Villa’s defence was detrimental at times and cost them multiple victories in the latter half of the campaign.
It was expected that Emery would bring in reinforcements to his backline this summer, however, so far Ian Maatsen is the only natural defender to join the club.
As a result, there is major concern over the centre-back position going into the new season, with the Villa manager only having three fit players in this position.
However, this is all about to change, with Emery closing in on the signing of Yeimar Mosquera.

Yeimar Mosquera set for Aston Villa medical
Mosquera currently plays for Colombian side Orsomarso SC after joining the club in January. Here, the 19-year-old has impressed and has made 20 appearances, scoring twice.
His form has also seen him represent his country at youth level, as he picked up caps for the Under 20s side.
Now, according to Pipe Sierra, Mosquera is close to sealing a move to Villa. The centre-back is set to arrive in Birmingham over the coming hours and have a medical before penning a four-year deal at the club.
While the fee is currently unclear, Orsomarso SC will retain a 30% future sale clause.
Yeimar Mosquera unlikely to be the answer to Aston Villa’s defensive issues
While it is currently unclear what role Mosquera will play in the Villa squad this season, he is unlikely to solve their defensive issues.
The Colombian is still young and has little experience in his playing career so far. The Athletic reported earlier this week that Mosquera could head out on loan to Real Union.
However, Emery could yet choose to keep the defender and oversee his progress over the season. The Villa manager has an impressive track record of improving young players at the club and hopefully, he can work his magic again here.
