Why did Aston Villa let him go?

Philogene departed Villa for Championship side Hull City ahead of the 2023/24 campaign. The winger was highly regarded at the club but the youngster wanted to leave.

The one thing Philogene desired was game time and last year, Emery couldn’t guarantee this. In the aftermath of the transfer last summer, the winger told the Sun via Birmingham Live: “I needed game time. At my age I can’t just sit on the bench, I need to keep playing and thought this was the best opportunity.

“You must keep working hard and stay in your game — and everything will come from that. The gaffer has helped me a lot here. He tells me to be myself and play my own game, be confident — and it’s working.”
