Aston Villa had serious interest and were considering making a bid of over £70 million for Federico Chiesa in the most recent transfer window.
In Max Allegri’s preferred formation, 3-5-2, Chiesa was seeing his playtime lessened following his highly anticipated return from injury.
Villa signed Moussa Diaby this summer but were seemingly interested in bringing in further attacking reinforcement.

The Villains had held interest in the Italian for a sustained period, but it almost came to pass this year.
A bid in the region of his value would blow Villa’s transfer record out of the water by up to £20 million.
It has been reported after the window has closed, that a deal was being thought about. Maybe take this one with a pinch of salt.
Italian football journalist, Romeo Agresi, has included this story in his most recent column.
Should Aston Villa sign Federico Chiesa?
So far this season the Italian winger has scored twice in three games as he has found a new role down the middle.
There has been talk that Chiesa never wanted to move to Birmingham either way.
In spite of this, a deal ‘never got off the ground’ anyway and he didn’t appear to be Unai Emery’s first choice.
Aston Villa signed Nicolo Zaniolo this window as a player in a similar vein to Chiesa.

Although Villa signed their man from Galatasaray, the Juventus man would of been an unbelievable signing.
As an attacker that can play up top or on the wing, he would suit Emery’s tactics to a tee.
He is a tricky player, but is also very direct and has an eye for goal.
With Ollie Watkins not firing, Cameron Archer sold, a front two of Chiesa and Diaby would be top class.
This being said without the sale of a big name like Leon Bailey for example, the finances behind this deal would be difficult.
This signing would be great for the club now, or in the future.
