Aston Villa came away from Anfield with a 3-0 defeat, Unai Emery felt that his side didn’t take their chances, while Liverpool did.

Coming into the game, both sides were in good form, each winning their last two Premier League games.

Villa had come off the back of a 3-0 win in Europe, defeating Hibernian at Villa Park mid week.

Jurgen Klopp’s side came back from behind, while a man down, to beat Newcastle United 2-1, thanks to a Darwin Nunez double.

The Reds were ahead after three minutes when Dominik Szoboszlai scored his first goal for his new club.

Matty Cash has been in top goalscoring form recently, this time he was scoring in his own net.

Salah’s cross, Nunez’s shot, off Emiliano Martinez and Cash’s touch took it in. 2-0.

Salah got his goal ten minutes into the second half, latching onto Nunez’s header to tap into an open net.

A 3-0 defeat on the road for the Villains, a disappointing result and performance.

What has Unai Emery said?

The Spaniard’s side have been in good form of late and fans were optimistic of a good result.

This idea appeared to be shared with the boss: “It is difficult to win here, but we were excited, we thought we could face them after our good results against Everton and Burnley.”

The hosts dominated from start to finish and deserved to win the game on the overall pattern.

Emery thought his side should have done better going forward: “The first half, was the key, not taking chances and we were not clinical. We conceded chances and they were.

“We started very well and we created to good chances to score but we didn’t do it.”

By the 55th minute the game was over making the following 35+ minutes tough to navigate.

Looking back to opening day, the manager felt he had to make some alterations: “We thought we could change, not like against Newcastle where we were in the last 20 minutes and really conceding then.

“We tried today and lost losing 3-0 we can accept because they were clinical and we were not.”

Emery wasn’t pulling the wool over anyone’s eyes: “They showed that they are better than us.”

No game now for two weeks due to international break, with Villa returning with a home match against Crystal Palace.

The Villains’ manager isn’t taking any breaks however: “Some players are going to their international team and we are going to stay here working.”

The Villa faithful will be hopeful of a better showing next time out.
