Aston Villa are said to be looking for a right back in January as they look to provide cover and competition for Matty Cash.
It has been a great start in the Premier League for Aston Villa which currently sees them sitting in fourth place.
Under the stewardship of Unai Emery, the Villans have improved massively and the standards have gone through the roof.
With that, the rotation of the starting XI has been few and far between. This as the Spaniard has made the fewest changes to his side.
Although that may be the case, as the season goes on, rotation and depth is going to be necessary. As a result of this, the January window will pose a chance to add some more options to the squad.
This has seen many links and now there is a suggestion that one position has become the priority this winter.

What has been said about Matty Cash and January?
There have been calls for Villa to look for a right back in January and those prayers seem to have been answered.
According to The Athletic, it appears that cover for Matty Cash is a main aim for the Villans coming into the transfer window.
On that, it has been said: “The January window is now 27 days away. Villa are in a position to address the balance of the squad. A right-back to provide competition and support to Cash may be an increasing priority.”
If the Polish international were to pick up an injury the only option would be to play Ezri Konsa there. Given how good the England international has been, to put him out of position would compromise the defence. As a result, Villa really need a right back to cover Cash.
This point was added to, The Athletic suggested ‘Especially in a defence as brave in setting offside traps. Subsequently increasing the number of one-on-one scenarios they face.”
Under Emery, Villa have been the best at catching their opponents offside. With this, it can be hard for a new defender to come in and get up to speed. Looking at Pau Torres for example, it took him time to find his feet and the great form that he’s in now.
The January window has to see Emery and Co. bring in some squad depth and competition. With no backup for Cash right now, there is a hole in the squad. This sees Villa be one injury away from having that affecting their first team.
