One rumoured target of Aston Villa was seen liking the club’s 2024/25 kit launch video and he’s still available this summer.

Unai Emery and Monchi are focused on scanning the market for attacking players to replace Moussa Diaby.

The Frenchman is poised to join Al-Ittihad in the coming days, giving Aston Villa something to think about ahead of deadline day.

A host of players have already been linked to Villa Park however, not all have been attackers, with one defensive option still available for transfer.

Aston Villa transfer target Mario Hermoso is still available

Earlier this summer, Villa were linked with Mario Hermoso, who is a free-agent after his contract with Atletico Madrid expired.

The Spaniard looked to be moving away from Monchi’s grasp as Napoli were speculated to be in favour of capturing his signature although the Serie A giants have revealed an opposing stance.

As relayed by Fabrizio Romano, Hermoso’s links to Napoli are ‘wide of the mark’, as the club themselves confirmed in a statement.

It’s added that due to Napoli already signing defenders this summer, a player of Hermoso’s profile is not needed, leaving the door wide open for Villa to explore.

With the 29-year-old ‘still available’ for free this summer, Monchi must pounce on the opportunity to welcome the versatile defender to Villa Park.

The Spain international would be the ideal capture for Villa for a variety of reasons, one of which being the squad’s current shortage of players in his position.

With Tyrone Mings still recovering from an ACL injury and Clement Lenglet returning to Barcelona from his loan spell, only Pau Torres, Ezri Konsa and Diego Carlos remain as Emery’s options at centre-back.

Links to Hermoso are encouraging given what Villa are lacking, with speculation growing on Tuesday following the club’s home kit launch.

As shared by a supporter on X, the free-agent was seen liking Adidas’ social media post of Villa’s home kit launch, sparking further rumours over his future.

Being capable of playing both left-back and in central defence, Hermoso would be the perfect signing for Emery, who values the versatility of his star defender, Konsa.

The Spaniard has enjoyed playing the England international on the right-side, adding defensive stability to the flank, which is something Hermoso could mirror on the left.

Only time will tell if Villa’s interest in Hermoso develops, with Napoli’s stance now made clear for all to acknowledge.
