In a recent report, it has been suggested that Aston Villa’s pursuit of Marcos Acuna is looking more likely to go through as Sevilla give the green light.
Over the summer, Aston Villa were showing interest in Argentine full-back, Marcos Acuna. This as it appeared Lucas Digne was set to leave.
Neither of those things happened as the Sevilla man picked up an injury. Any move away for the Frenchman collapsed as a result.
With that being said, the current Villa man has had a superb season so far. He has surprisingly become a key man in Unai Emery’s squad.
The Villans currently sit in fifth place and with Alex Moreno set to return from injury in the coming weeks. Is another left-back needed?
What has been said about Marcos Acuna?
According to reports from vamosmisevillafc.com, a move is looking more and more likely, should a bid come in.
On that it has been said: “Sevilla will open the exit door for Marcos Acuña in the next winter market, waiting for a good offer to arrive from the Premier League.”
Villa are said to have had a bid rejected over the summer but it is unclear as to how much that was. It seemed that the Villans wanted the Argentine in the first transfer window of the season and the interest is continuing.
The report suggested ‘Sevilla’s expectations, which valued the player between 12-15 million.’ At that price, the 32-year old may be worth a punt potentially.

He does have a contract which lasts until just 2025, so the La Liga side may look to cash in while they can.
Should Aston Villa sign him?
This one is strange. There are no rumours which suggest either Digne or Moreno are leaving the club, so another left-back?
Looking at his stats, he does excel in lots of different areas which would make him an exciting signing.
His Fbref, at a glance, shows just how well-rounded he is. This is when it comes to offence, defence and on-the-ball ability.
Going forward he registers in the top 20% for various stats. Per 90, his shot-creating actions, xG and expected assists are great for a defender.
On the ball, he is also great as he completes 1.32 take-ons and 4.51 progressive passes per game. He has top quality in possession and when moving forward.
Although this may contribute to being him less defensively proficient, this isn’t the case. He ranks in the top 14% for tackles and the top 21% for winning aerial duels.
There is no doubt in the quality that he possesses as an all-round fullback. But do Villa need him right now? No, Digne and Moreno are a great pair who provide competition for each other and don’t need replacing.
